David Beckham on Thursday said that he would donate his entire salary
from a five-month contract at French club Paris Saint Germain to a
children’s charity, in an unprecedented move from a top footballer.
The 37-year-old, who signed a deal until June 30 with the Ligue 1
leaders, did not divulge how much he would donate nor the name of the
organisation but it would be a significant amount.
“That’s one of the things that we’re very excited about, to be able
to give a huge sum to a children’s charity in Paris. It’s special,” the
former Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Los Angeles Galaxy
midfielder told a news conference.
Beckham, who according to the Sunday Times Rich List has a net worth
of 190 million pounds ($300 million, 220 million euros), is a proud
family man and has four children with his wife, former Spice Girl turned
fashion designer Victoria.
The player said that his wife and children — sons Brooklyn, Romeo and
Cruz and daughter Harper Seven — would remain in London during his time
in the French capital.
